Those seeking ‘A’ khatas for their properties in the city’s revenue pockets don’t have to wait any longer. The BBMP will commence collection of the development fee from now.
The move is expected to fetch the Palike a revenue of over 500 crore and will give people lawful ownership of properties. Till now, it had been facing technical glitches due to the pendency of the Akrama Sakrama scheme.
On Monday, BBMP commissioner M Lakshminarayana issued a circular to his officers to start collecting development charge from the owners of undivided, single residential layouts, which were earlier approved by the deputy commissioner.
“Many of these properties were not regularized because of Akrama Sakrama and we had approached the high court. At present, we will not issue ‘A’ khatas to such properties. Only owners of undivided properties in revenue pockets can pay up the development charges and obtain ‘A’ khatas,” said I Ramakanth, deputy commissioner, revenue, BBMP. The facility applies only to BDA-approved layouts.
The Palike will collect development charge of Rs 200 per square metre in 100-odd wards, and Rs 250 per square metre in the remaining 98 wards in newly-added areas. At present, these owners only have ‘B’ khata which doesn’t entitle them to bank loans. Officials have been cautioned to collect the fee only after thorough examination of the documents.
